Metal Braces
Metal, Twin Braces
Metal, twin braces have stainless steel brackets fixed to the front surface of the teeth with a metal archwire running through them, The metal archwire is held in place by elastic bands known as "ligatures" that exert pressure on the teeth. This aids in the movement of the teeth into their desired position. Metal, Self-ligating braces Metal, Self-ligating braces have a self-locking mechanism that is incorporated into the bracket. This allows the braces to function without the elastic bands required in traditional Metal, Twin braces. The advantages to self-ligating Metal braces include a shorter treatment period due to the replacement of elastic bands which reduces friction, allowing the teeth to move into the desired position faster. This allows for fewer follow-up appointments as the self-ligating braces can function for longer period of time compared to metal, twin braces, requiring less follow-up appointments. Lastly, they are more comfortable and more easy to care for. The lack of the elastic bands allows less entrapment of food, making maintenance easier. |
